Summer 2026 Issue

“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it.” Norman Maclean – A River Runs Through it (1976). As I round the corner to eighty years old next year, I find I cherish more the very simple things in life: family, good friends, a glass of fine bourbon or scotch and a day on the water. Most everything else is meaningless.

For Myles and me, this is our tenth issue of Fly Lines since it’s resurrection in 2023, and we think we are getting pretty good at it. Nothing could be accomplished without the charity of you, the readers, and our gifted writers who dedicate their time and knowledge to help us put it all together. We have no budget to pay our authors. Pretty much everything in the magazine could rate payment of several hundred dollars in any magazine they choose, but they prefer to support their federation by donating their work for free. We thank each of you from the bottom of our hearts!

This summer issue has a focus on the BC Interior. Doug Porter tells us about lake limnology, and the various strains of trout you will find there. Art Lingren reminds us of our fly-fishing roots with memories of Interior icons Bill Jollymore, Bill Nation and Jack Morrill, all gone but not forgotten. We would love to have a writer that could give us some articles on BC lakes or trout rivers’ destinations?           

Rory Glennie brings us a great article on “Flying for Shoreline Silver”, late summer and fall fishing for Coho on our beautiful ocean beaches. As always, Rory leaves it all out there, and offers our readers his superb writing skills and practical knowledge of where and how to fish them! 

We have “picked the brain” of Doug Porter, who lives at 108, and has written about the BC Interior/Cariboo for a good part of his life. Doug has been a welcome member and contributor to the magazine the past few years, and has the experience and knowledge that only “time in the saddle” can generate.
